This is not the first time that the Mythbusters carried unstable explosives on a time journey. Between #2246 and #2253, Jamie travels to the beginning of time with every explosive that ever existed or will ever exist, which naturally includes unstable explosives. That journey was luckier, perhaps because Jamie didn't run into time turbulance.
